BOOKER T. WASHINGTON

Booker T. Washington recalled his childhood in his autobiography, Up From Slavery. He was born in 1856 on the Burroughs tobacco farm which, despite its small size, he always referred to as a "plantation." His mother was a cook, his father a white man from a nearby farm.
Booker T. Washington was the first national leader for millions of African Americans at the turn of the twentieth century. The founder of an all-black school in Alabama called the Tuskegee Institute, Washington urged the South's eight million freed slaves and their descendants to continue to farm and do manual labor. Through hard work, he believed, they would prosper and someday enjoy the same rights and privileges as white Americans. He cautioned blacks to avoid political and civil rights battles, but to work instead to become property owners and merchants, and to create their own thriving, self-sufficient communities.

LIFE BEHIND THE STAGE (THE REAL STORY OF 3 FAMOUS JAZZ ARTISTS STORIES)

What is the perfect mean to you ? Even for myself, perfect may be a word that discribe someone who gets things they need success in their lifes, get a good job, or earn a lot of money, but is it always ture? I am interested in jazz music; in addition, I acknowledge that many jazz musicians had a lot of suffering in their lifes. Eventhough they had a lot of money, they could not solve in their problems. I would like to do the reseach by comparing three famous jazz artists stories, Billy Holiday, Bill Evans, Bud Powell. The researches are including their background, remarkable talent, achievement, and problem.

ISBN-10: 0195170679

This is the big one -- 20 thick volumes packed full of information on musical history, composers, artists and more. It carries a big price tag, but it's an invaluable aid for the serious student or writer. Grove has several other dictionaries, opera and jazz among them, but if you can only handle one, this is the one to get. This text refers to the 20 Volume edition of this title -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels. The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, second edition (New Grove II), is a monumental work of 29 volumes. It is the largest single-subject encyclopedia in the world and the definitive music reference source.
Sir George Grove (1820-1900), who could be called a Renaissance man, was a civil engineer who also built bridges, railways stations, and lighthouses in Bermuda and Jamaica. He began writing and editing the first Grove in the 1870s. That four-volume set was published in four different years, 1878, 1880, 1883, and 1890. Subsequent editions were edited by others, but the Grove name has remained. The second edition, in five volumes, was published from 1904 to 1910. The third edition, also in five volumes, appeared in 1927. The next year saw a one-volume American supplement containing some new material. A five-volume fourth edition was published in 1940. The nine volumes of the fifth edition appeared in 1954, followed by a supplementary volume in 1961. Stanley Sadie edited New Grove, published in 1980, and he is the editor of New Grove II. In the world of Grove these two new editions are called Grove 6 and Grove 7. New Grove II (or Grove 7), complete with an online version, continues a long and impressive history.

MBA Is All About The Green

There are many businesses school across the country that are incorporating the environmental and social costs of doing business into there curricula. These programs, Green education, has the goal to teach students to be successful in doing business without destroying environment. The Standford Graduate School of Business, ranked No.1 in the 2005 Aspen report, introduced a joint degree program for MBA students in environment and resources in April. On the East Coast, officials at Duck University's Fuqua School of Business plan to launch an initiative with Duke's environmental school that will study the emerging field of doing business in a sustainable context and the advantages to the business community of coming up with innovative practices. Many other businesses such as Brain Bridge Graduate Institute, Dominican University of California, and Presidio School of Management are applying Green education to their programs because they care not only world economy but also the ecology.
In my opinion, the Green MBA program is really good because they teach student to care about the planet. The students will use natural resources properly while maintaining business success. I think, nowadays many big companies such as QFC., Starbucks, and The Gaps are caring about environmental wellness. Therefore, students who graduate from MBA program that stress on Green education will become good business people.

UP FROM SLAVERY

Up From Slavery is an autobiography, was written by Booker T. Washington. He was born a slave on a plantation, owned by James Burroughs, in Franklin Country, Virginia, the time was spring 1856. The Burroughses were not especially cruel, but his life began in miserable surroundings. He lived in a typical log cabin with his mother, Jane, his brother, John, who is several year older than he is, his half sister, Amanda. As for his father, he didn't even know his name. His life's early years, which were spent in the little cabin, were not very different from those of thousands of other slaves. Nor did them have any playtime. Most of his time was spent cleaning the yards, carrying water to the men in the fields, or once a week bringing corn to the mill, for grinding. He had no schooling. Several times he carried the books of one of his young mistresses as far as the school house door. He felt that getting into a schoolhouse and studying in this way must be like getting into Heaven.
Slaves had only a first name or a first name combined with their owner's last name. His mother's husband, Washington Ferguson, who was Amanda's father and the stepfather of John and him, and had belonged to a different owner than his mother. He had seen him there perhaps once a year, around Christmas time.
In my opinion, this book would like to tell about slave's suffering. Most slaves were black people. I am interested in African American people's histories because they have different ways to develop their life. I admire a lot of genius African Americans, for example I heard about Blue music was created by African Americans who were slaves.

METHODIST PASTOR REVEALS SHE IS GAY AT SUNDAY SERVICE>>>

The associate pastor of a Methodist church on Seattle' s Beacon Hill announced during Sunday morning worship services that she's been a lesbian for about about as long as she can remember. The Rev. Kathleen Weber, associate pastor of children and youth services at Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church, shared her story during senior pastor David Nieda's sermon. The two had worked together to find the right moment. The reaction was very supportive, said Nieda, who recounted her comments from service. Weber, who's in her early 30s and previously from Atlanta, declined Sunday night to elaborate on her remarks. She has served at the church for four years and is in the process of being ordained. The United Methodist Church does not allow " self-avowed practicing homosexuals" to be ordained or to serve in the church. But an area church official expects Weber's appointment at Blaine Memorial to continue as well as the process of her ordination.
